The Directors are supported by an Administrator & Volunteer Trainer, a Coordinator and a Treasurer, who, together with the Directors, make up the Friends for Life Management Group. You can find out more about them and their roles below.
Pauline Carter – Volunteer Coordinator & Trainer
I am the new girl on the block and started working with Friends for Life in January 2017.
Why am I here? I joined Friends for Life because I saw the job advert for the role of Administrator being advertised during the same week I felt like I was being called to a new direction and to new challenges and I felt my skill set and passions in life would fit well with this role.
My background is in Nursing – mainly in the community as a District Nurse in Bedford and also in Palliative and End of Life care at St. John’s Hospice, Moggerhanger. Latterly I studied for my teaching qualifications and I became employed at the St. John’s Hospice as a Practice Educator. This role involved teaching staff in-house and student nurses from the university and also running study days for community healthcare staff, social workers, hospital staff and domiciliary care workers.
I have three grown up children and I am married to Dominic who is also a nurse by background. We are members of Christ Church, Bedford and enjoy going away for weekends and holidays. I like to spend any free time I get in my garden, socialising with my children and their partners, with my friends and my mum who has moved to live near me. I am very much enjoying having her nearby!
Kathryn Hughes – Marketing & Fundraising Director
I joined Friends for Life in June 2014 having previously worked with Action for Children as a Family Support Worker in a community setting for a number of years.
I am passionate about working in my local community and seeing the lives of those in need being changed for the better. My role with Friends for Life certainly fits with this passion!
My main responsibilities with Friends for Life involve overseeing the charity’s funding. I also spend some of my time working of the marketing side of Friends for Life and have enjoyed spending time rebranding the charity since I joined the team.
I am married to Darren and during my spare time I enjoy reading, walking in the countryside, baking, craft, spending time with friends and enjoying good food!
Mike Elliot – Treasurer
I have been the treasurer for Friends for Life since 2012 and feel privileged to play a part in this worthwhile charity. Prior to my involvement with Friends for Life I was the treasurer for the Bedford North Methodist Circuit for 7 years; a role I undertook following my retirement in 2002. My love of figures comes from being a Chartered Engineer with over 40 years in the aerospace industry.
