Who are Friends for Life?
Friends for Life is a small, Bedford-based charity working to address the social isolation of residents in Bedfordshire’s care homes.
Friends for Life focuses on the value of friendship in a person’s life and look to stretch out the hand of friendship to residents of Bedfordshire care homes who receive few or no external visitors.
We do this by recruiting and training volunteers to become personal befrienders, offering time, friendship and company to those who most need it.
Most, but not all, of the residents benefiting from Friends for Life befrienders are older people and we work closely with the care homes, Bedfordshire’s Older People’s Social Work Teams and the wider community to identify need within Bedfordshire.
Friends for Life is an equal opportunities charity and we offer our befrienders to any resident who is in need.
Established in 2007, Friends for Life was formed as a joint initiative of the Anglican Bedford Deanery and the North Bedfordshire Methodist Circuit who wanted to find a way to reduce loneliness in the local care homes.
Starting off as a small charitable project, Friends for Life became a charitable company in 2012 and a registered charity in 2015. Our registered charity number is 1165730.
